YOU KNIT Unique by Lee Andersen

Lee Andersen shares how she creates original knitted clothing and artworks using a wide range of materials.  Every page has photos, humorous cartoons, and useful tips learned from Ms. Takes who 'taught her everything she knows.' 

Lee began selling her one of a kind garments and those of other knitters in her gallery, Vibrant Handknits, in Wellington, New Zealand in the 1980's.  She had over 100 knitters  creating from her designs and one of a kind 'yarn kits'. She personally combined the yarns creating unique colors and textures. Her 'jerseys' and mohair coats sold to the Queen of Spain, the Crown Prince of Thailand, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and many other international celebrities. Some are in Te Papa, the nation Museum of New Zealand.

The New Zealand wool board published You Knit Unique and it has been reprinted many times. It is currently only available here directly from Lee.  

After moving to the US in 1989 she produced signed and numbered garments in Bolivia, some of which are in private collections. 

Her interests turned to fabrics and she began the Lee Andersen label, designing and producing in Columbia, Maryland. She sold 60,000 garments in 12,300 boutiques.
