VOLUNTEERS - TIPS
RUNWAY MODEL
Must be 5'9" or taller.
Small head relative to height.
Wear nude underwear with a nude strapless bra.
Bring 4 inch heels, not platforms.
Bring hair brush, comb and basic makeup.
Shower! No perfume.
Arrive with basic skin makeup and eyeliner and neat hair.
Females: Foot in front of the other in a line to make your hips sway.
Males: Not one foot in line with the other.
Arms at sides.
Shoulders back.
PHOTOGRAPHY MODEL
Shower! No perfume.
Needs wide spaced large eyes, small nose. Nose must be close to the lips. Must have symmetrical face, cheekbones, clear skin, good teeth.
Small head relative to the height. If you have a large head, try theater or TV!
Imagine there's a glass wall in front of you and behind you, 6 inches away. Do NOT put your hands or feet past that "glass wall."
Don't show the palms of your hands. The light color is distracting. Use a 'ballet hand' and keep hands away from body.
Asymmetrical arms and hands. Showcase a pocket by putting a thumb in or out and do not shove into pocket as this makes wrinkles.
Chin DOWN. We do not want to see up your nostrils. Face slightly forward.
Push your eyes open, dont squint.
Bend your elbows to stay in frame.
The 'broken doll' poses are good. Remember to stay flat to the camera and have a relaxed face with an open mouth.
Have 5 basic poses prepared.
Offer a screaming pose.
If you have boobs, pull them back, don't push them forward. Your face needs to be forward of your boobs.
Lips parted or smiling, no stiffness in face.
Show the angles in your body by exaggerating each bendable part of you body, Particularly waist and hips.
Bring 4 inch heels, not platforms.
Take your weight off one foot to give a more angular pose. Both feet flat on the floor is stilted and military and unprofessional modelling.
Shoe bag should have 4" nude pumps, 4" black pumps, black or brown calf length boots. More is better. Bring them all!
PHOTOGRAPHERS
Sweep the floor.
Make sure there are no loose threads on the clothing.
Center the model in your camera. Allow extra room for cropping.
SIT LOWER or lay on the ground to make the model look taller. Runway photography uses the height of the runway to get this effect.
Good general light is renaissance lighting (shadows catch around a little under 1/4th on the right side, light on the left side)
Read about what the model has to do.
Most importantly, your model should be FLAT to the camera to avoid any weird angles. Ask them to balance on one foot.
HAIR
Hair should be out of the way or should frame the face,
avoid anything that goes in front of the face like super long bangs (unless designers want otherwise.)
Combed out, smooth, reduce amount of loose hairs as much as possible to make it easier for the photoshop person.
Buns or ponytails should be tied up at the FRONT of their head to make their eyes look lower in the face - Disney princess proportion.
MAKEUP
Model should arrive with basic skin matching makeup and exaggerated, dark eyeliner.
Remember the photos will be 6 inches tall. The face will be 1 inch and the eyes 1/16 inch in size.
Exaggerate the makeup!
Check with the designer for the look they want.
